The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has found RCMP officers were not at fault after a man died of an overdose while in custody. The man was arrested on Bracken Road in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews early on Oct. 23, 2022 and placed in a cell at Selkirk’s RCMP detachment. Police found cocaine hidden in cavities carved into the soles of his shoes while preparing to transfer the man, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation, to Stony Mountain Institution.
