Virtual event – Zoom
Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 12 – 1:15pm

The City of Winnipeg, Government of Manitoba, Manitoba Indigenous Reconciliation Secretariat, and Women and Gender Equity Manitoba invite you to attend a virtual panel discussion in recognition of:

Dr. Kendra Nixon and Grace Holwell will be presenting crucial work to help end gender-based violence (GBV).

GBV is a violation of human rights that affects all communities. Although anyone can be affected by this human rights violation, some people and groups will experience it differently based on their gender and life circumstances. Manitoba’s rate of GBV is higher than the national average. The rates are twice as high in rural and remote areas as in cities. GBV also disproportionally affects Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples.

Join us to:

  • Understand community-engaged GBV research in Manitoba through the work of the RESOLVE Centre
  • Develop a deeper understanding of GBV, particularly intimate partner violence (IPV)
  • Examine the factors contributing to and the impacts of GBV/IPV across diverse populations and social contexts
  • Explore emerging issues in the field, such as partner-inflicted traumatic brain injury

She also studies how systems such as child welfare and the justice system respond to these issues. Dr. Nixon is the Chair of the Alliance of Canadian Research Centres on Gender Based Violence, a national collaboration that advances knowledge and action to end violence.
