Mayor Scott Gillingham and Premier Wab Kinew are putting their collaborative approach to governing on ice. On Saturday, November 30, the two will face off for the Winnipeg 150 City vs. Province Hockey Game at Gateway Recreation Centre.
The game will see the Mayor, City Councillors, and members of Winnipeg’s Public Service go head-to-head with the Premier, MLAs, and Provincial staff in a friendly competition to celebrate Winnipeg’s 150th anniversary. The event recreates a similar match played 50 years ago during the City’s centennial, when Mayor Stephen Juba’s “City Fathers” took on Premier Edward Schreyer’s “Golden Boys.”
Adding to the fun, Winnipeg Free Press columnist Dan Lett will step in as referee, holding both governments to account, while LTI, co-host on 103.1 Virgin Radio’s Ace Burpee Show, will handle the play-by-play, bringing his signature energy to the game.
Puck drop is at 11:15 a.m. Admission is free, and the first 250 attendees will receive complimentary hotdogs and drinks, courtesy of the City of Winnipeg. Fans are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for Manitoba Harvest.
